Jailbreak Tomorrow? Tonight? iOS 4.3.1 Released!
Apple has released iOS 4.3.1 almost two weeks earlier than most people anticipated. I am hoping this is good news for issues like diminished battery life which we have definitely experienced on our iPad 2. More exciting though is the probable imminent jailbreak, which we have really been waiting for so we can do some great app review videos. With all the great Airplay stuff flying around, we find it silly that there isn’t yet a way to, say, mirror the iphone or iPad in any mode to our Mac and simply screen record from there. As iy is, the only good solution is Display Recorder via Cydia, but it’s one of the few things we simply MUST HAVE.
iOS 4.3.1 is out now for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad/2 and Apple states these improvements….
- Fixes an occasional graphics glitch on the 4th generation iPod touch
- Resolves bugs relating to activating and connecting to some cellular networks
- Fixes image flicker when using Apple Digital AV Adapter with some TVs
- Resolves an issue authenticating with some enterprise web services
Hope there’s more than that, and less on the exploit closing. You can get it now by connecting your iDevice to iTunes or the direct downloads:
- iPhone 3GS
- iPhone 4 (GSM)
- iPad 2 (also iPad 2,2 and iPad 2,3)
- iPod touch 3rd generation
- iPod touch 4th gen
We’ll let you know when the jailbreak is out, we’re monitoring lots of sources for news on it.

iPad 2 Wi-Fi Teardown by iFixit – Less is More?
I am amazed at how little silicon is in these things. Chips will one day be as plentiful as grains of sand.
We’ll have our first look up soon, we wanted to wait til the rush is over.
We got our hands on Apple’s newest tablet, the iPad 2 on March 11, 2011. Follow us on Twitter to get all the latest updates.

iUGO Bringing Pricklees for iPad – We Are…. There?
You might be wondering why we’re covering an iPad game, as it’s not our core focus here at WholeApple. It’s got some cool 3D graphics, but the reason we’re doing this is to also let you know we will be launching a couple of new sites as part of the Adapptiv network soon, one in particular that is focused on the best iOS apps, accessories, and news. So in preparation for that we’re going to be adding some content to WholeApple that will float over to the new site when we launch in the next four to six weeks. Stay tuned fot some great stuff from us, but until then, go creat. Or maybe play a game. Like….. Pricklees possibly?
Pricklees – highly fun 2D/3D rhythm- based game. This is a music game made for everyone… just try and put it down.
We Got the Verizon iPhone! Apple Updates to 4.2.6 Firmware
Well it arrived. We’ve got it, and we are a little confused only on one issue, which is why the iPhone on Verizon had to be just a tad bit different physically than the AT&T version. The mute switch is just a tad off, and that’s about it. If it’s thinner it seems it’s just by half a millimeter if it even is, and AT&T cases fit fine except for the mute switch That’s….. weird.
It’s an iPhone, runs on Verizon, and that means it’s the best iPhone yet for making actual phone calls. Verdict? We’ll let you know after a few days of proper testing.
The 4.2.6 update? We’re looking into it but it’s available now and we don’t think it’s for the iPhone 4 on AT&T, but we’re an Apple Developer and are running at 4.3 beta so we can’t confirm.
Mac App Store Promo Codes Now Available Around Globe
If there was any doubt as to if the Mac App Stoe could be a good thing, the guys who make Pixelmator proved that a cool million bucks in one month means success, at least for them. While the Mac App Store is and should be very different from the iOS App Store, everntually the two will merge, and right now the rules are the rules, at least until Apple says otherwise, and they will. For any number of things, like the fact that developers are limited to 50 codes per version of an app. Hunh? Why put a restriction on it at all? Where do free apps figure into that equation? Apple writes rules on the fly it seems, but they are generally pretty good about righting the ship when it’s listing. Not that hey don’t wait until the boat is full of water and people ate bitching, but right it they ultimately do. Look at Flash deelopment for iOS as a good example.
The Mac App Store is young. As with the iOS App Store before it, a lot of this is a “take your best guess’ but keep moving forward approach for Apple. One thing you can’t do is argue with their success.
Want the New Cydia on 4.1xx? Get Yer Hack On.
If you’re astute enough to jailbreak your iPhone (or Touch, iPad), know what you’re doing beyond the act of jailbreaking itself and you want the awesome juicy (well speedy) goodness of the new Cydia without having to give up your current jailbreak for the time being until an untethered 4.2 hack is out, then follow these simple steps to Cydia Nerdvana.
- What you’ll need: Safari Download Manager and iFile from Cydia
- Step 1: Download the new Cydia package from here on your iPhone using Safari Download Manager
- Step 2: Once the file has downloaded, navigate to var/mobile/Media/Downloads in iFile
- Step 3: Tap cydia_1.0.3366-…phoneos-arm.deb, then “Installer” (The .deb should install rather quickly.)
- Step 4: When the install is done, close iFile and do a full reboot of your iPhone.
- Done. Enjoy the new, fast as it should have been Cydia.
We wonder what Jay’s Mac Cydia Store will be like… Can’t wait….
