Apple Event Coverage – Oct 22, 2013
I sincerely hope that they release the Mac Pro today, but I’m not sure why I care because I don’t even really want one.
Why? One word…. AMD.
I’m sorry and no offense to AMD, they make some great processors and their Radeon line of cards are great for gamers and for video and 3D they’re not horrible. That is, however, one of the points. They are not nVidia, and those folks are the king of the hill in DCC and 3D graphics GPU’s. I cringe that the last two MacBook Pros I have had used the Radeon graphics, and would have done anything to upgrade to nVidia but of course, that’s not possible. Unless of course you build a Mac yourself and then you can do all sorts of stuff.
VidReview – Logic Keyboard for Final Cut Pro & After Effects
I’m jealous. Jealous of people who only seem to have to know one app, and know it extremely well. Whether you’re an illustrator user, a Final Cut Pro user, or anyone who works on a single application almost exclusively on a daily basis, you probably know the hotkey combinations of your application like the back of your hand. Me on the other hand, knows about three jillion different apps, some of them inside and out, others only peripherally, but few of them can I honestly say that I know the majority of keyboard shortcuts for. I tend to use the menuing systems inside the applications far more than I do the hotkeys in many situations, and I do know that this slows down my workflow. This is of course, not the case with applications I use all the time like Photoshop, but what tends to happen with me is I will accidentally use hotkey combinations from other applications while inside of another.

QuickLook – Mac Only Quality Only, Twelve South
One of the things I fear as Apple becomes more of a consumer oriented company than at any time in their history, is their roots in the design and publishing community. When it comes to the UI of many Mac apps, and products made for Apple computers and iDevices, one thing becomes clear if you’ve been around a while; there are those who love their Apple gear, and those who love what Apple has helped to define for decades now. Put simply, that’s design that facilitates function, not just for design’s sake. They say:
Twelve South is here to create beautifully designed accessories exclusively for Apple computers. We know Mac users. We are Mac users. We feel it’s time to stop settling for PC accessories that are painted white and passed off as “Mac compatible.” Our company is here to focus on Apple accessories exclusively.
