If there was any doubt as to if the Mac App Stoe could be a good thing, the guys who make Pixelmator proved that a cool million bucks in one month means success, at least for them. While the Mac App Store is and should be very different from the iOS App Store, everntually the two will merge, and right now the rules are the rules, at least until Apple says otherwise, and they will. For any number of things, like the fact that developers are limited to 50 codes per version of an app. Hunh? Why put a restriction on it at all? Where do free apps figure into that equation? Apple writes rules on the fly it seems, but they are generally pretty good about righting the ship when it’s listing. Not that hey don’t wait until the boat is full of water and people ate bitching, but right it they ultimately do. Look at Flash deelopment for iOS as a good example.
The Mac App Store is young. As with the iOS App Store before it, a lot of this is a “take your best guess’ but keep moving forward approach for Apple. One thing you can’t do is argue with their success.
