I love my iPad 2, and although it’s not a huge update hardware wise, the things I use it for, i.e. pretty much everything, definitely make it a worthwhile investment. The cameras are also a nice addition, and I wish they were a little better resolution-wise and had a flash like on the iPhone 4, but it is what it is. The camera though, in this case the front facing one, has implications for some very cool things. Like 3D for instance. What kind of 3D you ask? Well how about this….
Pretty cool huh? More after the jump.

Coupled Perspective on Mobile Devices. We track the head of the user with the front facing camera in order to create a glasses-free monocular 3D display. Such spatially-aware mobile display enables to improve the possibilities of interaction.
It does not use the accelerometers and relies only on the front camera.
The demo with the targets has been inspired by the work of Johnny Lee with a Wii remote.
I can’t wait to see what kind of commercial apps and games are made with this tech.
