I like the concept of this site quite a bit, and may even try my hand at getting a project funded in this manner in future, but I want to find out more about it first. Kickstarter.com is a site where people pledge money to fund your project, and what they get in return is…?!?!? I kno wthe site says Kickstarter gets 5% if the project is funded, which is reasonable, but the other part, what the people who pledge get, is an unknown.

Until I looked for more than five seconds.

Depending on the project of course, there are incentives, and the level of money pledged usually determines the quality of the carrot offered. Makes sense, no? The first project I looked at was actually very cool, and it’s a short sci-fi film done almost entirely with practical sets and models called HENRI 2.0 — A Science Fiction Short Film. That’s almost unheard of today, and though the production teaser for the pledge request doesn’t actually show any finished shots, from what I can see it relly looks pretty awesome. I hope thye make it to their goal, and I may just throw a few bucks their way in support. In today’s world, doing this film in the manner they are actually makes sense when budget is taken into account, and the model maker is a pro and highly capable. Best of luck to them and you can come back here and check out this widget to see if they hit their $15,000 goal by August 6!

UPDATE! As you can see below, they made their budget and have now blown past it, so congratulations to Eli and team! Every bit helps them out so don’t stop donating if you can. We’ll work on an interview soon if they’ll play nice.
